Karla Faye Tucker
“Every person should read this book—they will never be the
same.” —Henry
Blackaby, author of Experiencing God
From
Linda Strom:
People have asked me why I wrote Karla Faye Tucker: Set Free
and how I think God might use it. In the final days before Karla Faye
Tucker’s execution, she gave me a charge:
“I have such joy—joy without a lid on it.
I’m going home to be with the Lord, and I’m trusting in your hands this
message of joy. Take it to the world for me.”
In my 11-year journey with Karla, it was her joy that captivated me.
Karla Faye Tucker: Set Free
is the story of a murderer who said “yes” to God.
Every day while on Death Row, God put before her life and death; each time
she chose life, and that choice resulted in the joy we saw in her.
It was that joy that caused Larry King to say, three weeks before her
execution as his hour-long interview with Karla ended:
King: “Finally, you remain up.”
Karla: “Yes.”
King: “Can you explain that to me a little bit more?
It can’t just be
God.”
Karla smiled broadly. “Yes, it can—it’s called the joy of the Lord.
When you’ve done something like I’ve done and you’ve been forgiven for it and
you’re loved—that has a way of so changing you. I have experienced real love….
I know what it is; I know what forgiveness is, even when I’ve done something
so horrible. I know that, because God forgave me when I accepted what Jesus
did on the cross. When I leave here, I’m going to be with Him.”

About the book ...
Karla’s disarming love impacted countless lives, including mine.
It’s really God’s story, for it was God who saw the lonely little girl sitting in the front
row of a small church in Texas. And from the foundation of the world, He
orchestrated events so the Texas Department of Corrections would designate her
as inmate number 777. Seven is the Biblical number symbolizing perfection,
completeness. —Linda Strom
Who would benefit from reading Karla Faye Tucker: Set Free
?
The “brokenhearted” (Isaiah
61)—whether the brokenhearted are in
prison, at church, our next-door neighbor, or the president of a large company.
What was the central purpose for writing it?
To demonstrate how God met Karla’s desire for unity in the body of Christ.
She stated:
“The body of Christ out there is not
complete, not whole, without the body of Christ in here (prison). Nor are we
complete or whole without the Body of Christ out there. And until we come
together in unity and embrace one another, and support each other, and pray
for each other, and see that—then we’ve got the body divided and hurting in
a serious way.”
The goal, or purpose, of this book is to be a bridge …
honestly revealing the way the Lord connected the lives (stories) of men and
women both inside and outside prison walls. It reveals how God uniquely brought
together a diverse, multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, interdenominational people …
inside and outside the fences … and everyone’s life was changed.
